The terms Creative Industries and Creative Digital Industries are now widely used by business and government in similar ways to the more established terms of cultural sector, primary and manufacturing industries. Governments have been quick to see the potential of the creative industries for turning the latent symbolic value residing in highly educated workforces, communities and locales into economic assets. But what are these industries becuase if we cant agree on a realistic defintion then it will be hard to measure and compare them? This paper explores the similarities and differences in the definitions of the Creative Industries, the Creative Digital Industries and the Cultural Industries as implemented by the CCI Creative Industries National Mapping Project.
