John Hartley invited to attend IP policy launch in London

CCI's Director of Research, John Hartley, currently in London, has been invited by David Lammy, Minister for Higher Education and Intellectual Property, to the launch of a new research agenda which aims to provide robust evidence and policy insight into the economic value of Intellectual Property (IP).

Joly Dixon, Chairman of the Strategic Advisory Board for Intellectual Property Policy (SABIP) and interim Chief Executive, Sean Dennehey, of the Intellectual Property Office will present the new research agenda and action plan which aims to bring together the current fragmented global research effort and develop frameworks to enable policy makers and industry to better understand the role and value IP in the global economy.

On 10 June this year David Lammy, SABIP and the Intellectual Property Office brought together leading international IP policy-makers and academics in London to consider the implications for policy of our understanding of the evidence, and identify a programme for future research to support policy.

Around 40 invited participants attended, and the Forum comprised three main panel sessions, each having before it a paper, commissioned from a leading academic, to provoke lively discussions of current issues from panellists who included academics, representatives of industry and policy-makers.

Each panel exposed the most important research insights for policy, and priorities for future research. As a result, the day led to concrete and soundly-based suggestions for further research.

The forum's outcomes and a future plan will be released in a new report at the launch on 26th November. Details of the report and a link to the full text will be available on Creative Economy and via the Creative Economy newsletter.
