Asian Creative Transformations

Dr Michael Keane is a Centre Fellow with the CCI and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Creative Industries and Innovation at QUT. His research interests include creative industries and innovation in China; creative clusters in China and East Asia; audio-visual industry policy and development in China, South Korea, and Taiwan; and television formats in Asia.

Michael is coordinator (with Jo Tacchi) of Asian Creative Transformations project in CCI. He is the author of Created in China: the Great New Leap Forward (2007), a study of China’s creative economy, and how television, animation, advertising, design, publishing and digital games are reshaping traditional understanding of culture. His sole authored books are China’s New Creative Clusters: Governance, Human Capital and Investment (2011) and In Creativity There is No East or West (2010).

In recognition of the value of his scholarship on the creative industries in China, Michael was honoured in 2011 with a prestigious Oriental Scholar Award.
